Brianhead Getaway

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Blaine and I love weekend getaways and the fact that his parents own a cabin is such a blessing because since we have no money to randomly get a hotel in California for example, we can most definitely stay in our own room at the cabin in Brianhead, UT. We very much appreciate the fact that we are free to use it if nothing else is going on (i.e. ward activity, scouts trip, someone else's party haha)

The funny thing about going this weekend is that we got there so much later than we thought but the journey getting there was so much fun! We were supposed to leave Friday night but nope, we got too tired, it was too late, we love our bed at our house and we relaxed after work with some Cafe Rio. Saturday we were supposed to get up early but Blaine laughed and said, "I'm not setting the alarm" haha. Waking up at naturally at 7ish isn't that late anyways but it is for us. Well we packed up, had a simple breakfast and headed for the road by 8ish. 3 hours max is what takes us to get to Brianhead so one could say that we should have gotten there by noon (take into account the 1hr jump into Utah) but we made a pitstop by Home Depot in Cedar (Blaine's fave) and I really REALLY wanted pizza for lunch so after Pizza Hut and Dominos couldn't make a pizza immediately, we picked up a pizza at Little Ceasars that definitely hit the spot. We got to the cabin now closer to 1:30pm and after heating up the cabin, finding all our boarding gear and getting out the door, I think we got to the lifts by 2:30pm! Haha, they close by 4pm. But it doesn't matter we had so much fun on our 4 runs. The rest of our weekend included movies, Blaine on the snowmobile, cooking, lounging, water fight, cleaning, and organizing our room. Yes cleaning, we made a mess EVERYWHERE we went with blankets and dishes and snow clothes all over the place but as a rule, we leave the cabin better than we found it. We didn't want to come home but by 9 p.m. on Sunday, we were back in our house ready to fall asleep :)

Elder De La Vega and Brianhead

Thursday, January 28, 2010

I can't believe that I haven't written about this earlier! So my little brother is now all grown up and he's going on a mission. We had a little get together so he could open his call in front of his family and friends. So many people were there! All his leaders from Church, his best friends, his family and his beloved parents. It was such a wonderful moment and he's going to the Canada, Montreal Mission in Spanish and French! He leaves March 24th! He'll be going back to my college roots, PROVO! He already knows Spanish and so that's why Heavenly Father knows that he can handle French.

On another note, Blaine and I went snowboarding! We had such beautiful powder and I did so much better! I hope that we have good snow when we go back next week! It's so nice to have our own room at the cabin, it feels great :) I love when I get to hang out and play with my husband.

Good Bye 2009!

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

I am so excited for 2010 with my husband. We have so many resolutions and dreams and I am so looking forward to the rest of forever with Blaine. Our lives have gotten pretty crazy lately by me working full-time, having Blaine start school in a week, Blaine taking on more responsibilities at work, and just normal everyday life. We are making so many plans and enjoy every minute together! Let's flash back at the end of 2009, it was great! I need to blog more haha
We spent New Year's in our cabin at Brianhead and we had so much fun! No pictures really haha we were having too much fun! We snowboarded, we played on the snowmobiles, we watched movies, ate yummy food and drank hot chocolate all day long. We spent a good 3 days there and it felt so great to get a break from Las Vegas life and enjoy the beautiful mountains.
One of my best friends, Julie, came down from school during her break and it was so nice to hang out with her and catch up. I love how even though we only see each other like 2-3 times a year, we can still hang out and be the best of friends. I love those memories that I have with her!
Christmas was such a fun time! We spent Christmas Eve with my family, Christmas morning with Blaine's, and Christmas Day dinner with my family again. I loved hopping around because they live so close to each other! I love both of my families and my favorite Christmas celebration was waking up with my husband early like little kids to open the presents we gave to each other. Which included a couch!!! The most comfy thing EVER.
We went to the sand dunes in Armagoza a while back after Thanksgiving and we had so much fun! We camped out there and played with our big kid toys and bbq'd yummy steaks. Such a fun little trip! Gotta do that again for sure!!! It was a great 2009 activity and will make it a tradition to go more often!

General Conference Weekend

Monday, October 12, 2009

Blaine and I went to Brianhead with his family and it was pretty neat! Interesting but neat! Haha Friday we never made it to Tuacahn to see Annie but we did get Cafe Rio :) We also had the opportunity to visit blaine's mission buddy Elder Stowe and his wife to be! We love them! So cute to see their apartment and how happy we are that they will be sealed soon. Saturday was relaxing as we napped and read books but it was hard work as we chopped wood and cleaned up. Poor Blaine was basically dying in bed because of the flu and so he was out for the entire day except to go to Priesthood Session of General Conference and to watch a movie with him. Sunday we did rest a lot and we 1) Heard conference on the radio 2) Heard conference from Jeff's laptop and 3) Heard conference from the inside of the Suburban! The projector wasn't working, we lost Internet connection for a while, we lost power, and then the laptop died. I am happy we did all we could though to watch conference! After a yummy dinner it was time to go back home. I enjoyed getting out of Las Vegas but I didn't enjoy coming home sick. Blaine and I had a tough week after that :) (see nyquil post below haha)

Memorial Day Weekend

Sunday, May 31, 2009

Friday we had a pretty crazy time with house hunting. We looked at our top three houses and we were so lost! We were at the "Perfect" Cape Eagle house and we thought "Nah, not even an option". I thought it would be too selfish to want it. So we gave it up and went home. After that, we decided just to take a break on the whole house thing because we were exhausted! It's way fun but way crazy too. It's a really emotional ride because it's our future home! It's very important to us and our future children.

Saturday we hung out with James and had lunch. Later Michelle and I went to the Taylor Swift Fearless Concert after Olive Garden and I LOVE HER. It was great getting to spend time with my little sister.

Sunday we went to Church and drove to Brian Head. Such a small trip but it was still so great! We took a different way going to the cabin and so we went from the Cedar City route where on the way up you can see this steak house (which we STILL want to go to) and it was one of the most beautiful sceneries I have ever seen! You just see mountains and mountains and trees and canyons and great skies. There was barely any snow left and so we took some time to play in the snow/mud also. We even off-roaded our way down to the Cabin and got all muddy :) We got there right in time for dinner and had a hilarious but yummy time eating ribs! Blaine and I ended up having a little too much fun with our food haha. Time at the cabin is just so relaxing. Watching movies, taking hikes and talking is always so great. Blaine and I took some time to talk about our house and our future and although things don't always turn out, Heavenly Father knows what is best for us.

Monday was crazy on our way home because there was an accident that had stopped us for like 1 1/2 hours! We were seriously going like 5 mph but we had a ton of fun in the car, even a water bottle exploded on me and couldn't stop laughing. I'm so ticklish too! Then we came home and had some more tough times with housing but again, what Heavenly Father wants is the BEST.

Brianhead Trips

Monday, March 30, 2009

Blaine's cabin has always been such a great place to spend time at and so the rest of this season we got to go snowboarding twice :) Not only do we snowboard ( I don't do very well sometimes haha) but we play with snowmobiles, we watch movies and we just hang out as family and friends! We love a packed house. One time Alisha and I were in charge of getting food for about 15 people and so we got LOADS of groceries and made food and it was so much fun. Blaine is amazing at snowmobiling and so it's so fun seeing him do great jumps and tricks. One time I did like two little jumps and I had no idea what I was doing and so I hurt my knees on the snowmobile! Biggest bruises of my life haha but so worth it! Also, one time Blaine and I found the "Magic School Bus" and we played in it. We tried taking pictures on top of it and after a bunch of tries, with the timer on the camera we got it! Let's not forget the fact that I couldn't get OFF the bus! I just couldn't jump off. I was trying to slide off the bus but nope, it had to be a jump! Since I desperately needed help, Blaine came up to get me, picked me up, and he jumped FOR ME and we landed in the pretty soft snow! I think Blaine had snow up to his waist haha I love Brianhead!!!
